The Nigerian Bar Association has demanded the immediate release of a young lawyer, Onyesom Peace Udoka, who was kidnapped with her sister in Kogi State.
Udoka, a National Youth Service Corps member, was abducted on the Lokoja–Okene highway on Saturday, just a day after she was called to the bar.
NBA President Afam Osigwe described the incident as shocking and unacceptable, calling it a tragic attack on the future of the legal profession.
He urged security agencies to act swiftly to rescue the victims and warned that Nigerians must not continue to live under constant fear on the highways.
The NBA also pressed the Federal Government to step up action against rising insecurity, especially kidnappings along major roads.
The Lokoja–Okene axis has become notorious for abductions, with gunmen attacking travellers earlier this month, leaving one dead and several others taken hostage.
