Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reaffirmed that the defence of Pokrovsk remains a top priority, as the government deploys elite special-forces units to reinforce troops in the embattled eastern town.

Military sources say the deployment aims to protect vital supply routes and stabilize front-line positions amid reports of Russian advances around the Donbas region.
Ukrainian officials maintain that their forces are still in control of key areas despite intense shelling and heavy fighting.

Pokrovsk, a major transport hub, is seen as critical to Ukraine’s ability to resist Russian pressure in the east.
Analysts warn that the loss of the town could strengthen Moscow’s hold over Donbas and reshape the balance of the conflict.
Russia currently controls about one-fifth of Ukrainian territory, including Crimea, annexed in 2014.
