The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, has inaugurated a Technical and Steering Committee on the creation and management of the Nigeria Green Climate Fund and Sovereign Carbon Credits.
The move is aimed at positioning the country as a major player in global climate finance and energy transition.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Emeka Vitalis Obi, made this known during the weekend, while speaking at the inauguration in Abuja
He described the initiative as a bold step towards integrating economic growth, energy security, and environmental responsibility.
Dr. Obi further noted that the Committee’s mandate was to design financial, institutional, and regulatory frameworks that would enable Nigeria access global climate capital and monetize emission reductions, among others.
