The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun says 11,566 police personnel have been recalled following the presidential directive to withdraw police officers from VIP protection.
Egbetokun, revealed this on Thursday during the strategic officers conference,
The IGP said the redeployment of the affected personnel to underserved communities had since commenced.
He explained that the recent directive by President Bola Tinubu was a strategic and deliberate realignment of national policing priorities.
According to him, the policy decision was rooted not in sentiment, but in necessity, reflecting the current security demands of the country.
The IGP added that it reinforced the main purpose for which the Force existed; the protection of the people, the defence of communities, and the safeguarding of public order
Recall, President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday declared a nationwide security emergency and ordered additional recruitment into the Nigerian Armed Forces and the police force, amid rising attacks and abductions by gunmen and suspected terrorists.
