The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has declared a total and comprehensive two-week warning strike across all public universities in the country.
‎The National President of ASUU, Professor Chris Piwuna, announced the decision during a press conference at the University of Abuja on Sunday.
‎He explained that the action followed the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government on the 28th of September, after what he described as a lack of meaningful progress in addressing the union’s long-standing demands.
‎Professor Piwuna said the strike is in line with the union’s National Executive Council resolution, stressing that government’s appeal to suspend the action came too late.
‎The Federal Government had earlier urged ASUU to shelve the strike, assuring that it was committed to resolving outstanding issues through the reconstituted negotiation committee.
‎All ASUU branches have been directed to commence full withdrawal of services from midnight on Monday, the 13th of October.
