Private Broadcaster, Badeggi 90.1 FM has resumed transmission of radio signals from the Niger State capital – following a temporary closure believed to have been ordered by the State Government.
There had been outrage earlier in the day by the station’s listeners and a section of the online community after a video of officials from the Niger State Urban Development Board sealing the facility – went viral
Recall that Governor Umaru Bago had on Friday threatened to have the license of the station revoked – over alleged unethical practices and inciting of violence
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Bologi Ibrahim, the Governor had directed the Commissioner for Homeland Security and the Commissioner of Police to seal the radio station, and emphasised the need for the security operatives to profile the owner of the radio station as his station allegedly promoted violence.
However, in its reaction to the directive, the Director of Operations at Badeggi FM, Abubakar Shuaib, implored the governor to channel his complaints through proper channels rather than deploying operatives to carry out a forceful closure
He had urged the State Government to write to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) who is legally tasked with probing and monitoring radio and television stations across the country
The Ministry of Information and National Orientation had also issued a statement acknowledging the concerns raised by the Niger State Government but advised for a formal filing of complaints through the NBC.
Pending when the complaints are filed, the Ministry appealed to all parties to remain calm, assuring that the NBC would resolve the issue in a fair and impartial manner.
