China has accused the United States of applying double standards after President Donald Trump announced a fresh 100-percent tariff on Chinese goods.
Beijing’s Ministry of Commerce, in a statement on Sunday, described the U.S. move as a “typical example of double standards,” warning that it could harm ongoing trade discussions between the two countries.
President Trump announced on Friday that the new tariffs, set to take effect on November 1, were in response to what he called China’s “aggressive export curbs” on rare-earth minerals.
China, however, says Washington’s repeated threats of high tariffs have severely undermined the atmosphere for cooperation and dialogue.
The Ministry urged the United States to pursue balanced engagement rather than economic confrontation.
