The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has appointed former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to lead its Election Observation Mission to Côte d’Ivoire.
The ECOWAS Secretariat confirmed the appointment in a statement released in Abuja on Sunday.
According to the statement, the mission will be deployed from the 19th to the 29th of October, ahead of the country’s presidential election scheduled for the 25th of October.
As head of mission, Professor Osinbajo will lead a team of respected West Africans to engage key national stakeholders, promote peaceful conduct, and assess the credibility of the electoral process.
The observers are also expected to collaborate with other international and local groups to ensure transparency and fairness during the polls.
ECOWAS says the move reflects its ongoing commitment to peace, stability, and democratic governance across the sub-region.
