‎The Federal Government has announced a five-year suspension of the Bilateral Education Scholarship Programme to improve student development and well-being.
‎
‎The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa made this known during the weekend while speaking after an extensive review of academic programmes abroad,
‎
‎Dr. Alausa stated that every course previously available through overseas scholarships was now accessible and often better enhanced within Nigerian institutions.
‎
‎Clarifying on the decision, the Minister emphasized that while the moratorium encouraged local education, it did not prevent parents from privately sponsoring their children to study overseas.
‎
‎He reassured citizens that the moratorium does not affect other vital scholarship programmes.
‎
‎These include the Nigerian Scholarship for students in public universities and polytechnics, the Education Bursary Awards for students pursuing Education degrees, and the Presidential NYSC Ex-Corps Scholarship
