The Federal Government has issued an advisory on impending floods in seven states due to rising waters in the River Niger.
The flood alert affects 29 communities in Benue, Borno, Gombe, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Niger, and Yobe.
This was revealed in a statement by the Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department in the Federal Ministry of Environment, Mr. Usman Bokani
He said due to the rise in the water level of the River Niger, communities on the flood plains from Jebba to Lokoja were advised to evacuate.
According to him, the listed environs were likely to witness heavy rainfall that may lead to flooding within the prediction period
Mr. Bokani further urged residents, state governments, and relevant stakeholders to remain on high alert, take proactive safety measures, and report any developments to local emergency services.
