‎The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has warned protesters in the Federal Capital Territory to refrain from vandalising national assets during protests over the detention of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
‎FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, gave the warning in Abuja, stressing that while citizens had a right to peaceful protest, the Corps would not tolerate the destruction or theft of public or private property.
‎Odumosu said security personnel have been deployed across the territory to protect critical infrastructure and ensure peace before, during, and after the rallies.
‎He urged officers to maintain professionalism and avoid harassment or intimidation of citizens, warning that indiscipline would not be condoned.
‎The commandant also cautioned those planning to hijack the peaceful protests, saying anyone caught with criminal intent would face the full weight of the law.
‎Meanwhile, activist Omoyele Sowore and a coalition of civil society groups say they will proceed with Monday’s planned protest demanding Nnamdi Kanu’s release.
‎Kanu has been in DSS custody since 2021, facing terrorism and treason charges.
