‎The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, PETROAN, has announced plans to shut down fuel dispensing nationwide for three days.
‎In a statement, PETROAN President Billy Gillis-Harry said the move which is to begin on Tuesday, the 9th of September, 2025 is aimed at resisting monopolistic practices in the petroleum downstream sector, particularly the growing dominance of the Dangote Refinery,
‎The group warned this could drive other operators out of business and trigger mass unemployment.
‎It insisted that its goal was to protect jobs, stabilise prices, and promote fair competition in the nation’s oil and gas industry.‎
‎PETROAN explained that consultations with government agencies will continue through Monday, but if no resolution was reached, members would halt lifting and selling of petroleum products across the country.
‎The association has set up a 120-man compliance team to monitor filling stations and ensure the action remains peaceful.‎
‎It called on President Bola Tinubu, the NNPCL, regulators, and security agencies to intervene urgently to avert hardship on civilians.
