French football legend Zinedine Zidane has confirmed his ambition to one day manage the France national team.
Speaking at an event organised by Italy’s La Gazzetta dello Sport on Sunday, Zidane said he is confident he will return to coaching soon but did not reveal when or if he plans to replace current coach Didier Deschamps.
The 53-year-old former Real Madrid boss, who guided the club to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles, remains one of the favourites to take over when Deschamps steps down after next year’s World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Zidane, who famously scored twice in France’s 1998 World Cup final win over Brazil, said passion and energy are key ingredients for success in football coaching.
