The Lagos State Government, acting through the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and emergency management responders, has commenced a high-precision, engineering-led controlled demolition of the structurally distressed Great Nigeria Insurance House located on Lagos Island. The commercial high-rise had suffered severe structural fatigue, visible concrete spalling, and dangerous structural tilting over recent months, posing an imminent catastrophe to neighboring businesses and heavy pedestrian traffic in the bustling central business district. State commissioners explained that despite repeated structural integrity warnings and notices issued to property owners over the past two years, remediation efforts failed, forcing the government to step in with heavy demolition machinery to dismantle the compromised floors safely. Traffic diversions have been put in place by LASTMA officials to facilitate the multi-day engineering operation.
