The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has said the recent surge in insurgent attacks across the country is politically motivated and orchestrated to distract the administration of President Tinubu.

‎Akpabio made the remarks on Tuesday during the commissioning of the Nigeria Revenue Service corporate headquarters in Abuja.

‎The Senate President linked the insecurity to political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections and predicted that the attacks would subside once the elections were concluded.

‎He lauded President Tinubu’s administration, stating that the President remained focused on reforms despite mounting political pressure.

‎Akpabio also dismissed opposition concerns about a drift towards a one-party state, arguing that many political parties were weakened by internal crises and organisational deficiencies.

‎He further criticised calls for the resignation of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over alleged partisan social media activity,
