The Federal Government has expressed profound sorrow over the death of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Father Amir and former Emir of the State of Qatar.
Sheikh Hamad, who ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013 and is popularly known for spearheading the country’s rapid transformation and modernization, reportedly died on Sunday
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and signed by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Federal Government described the late leader as a visionary whose legacy extended far beyond Qatar’s borders.
The ministry said Sheikh Hamad’s leadership played a vital role in shaping modern Qatar and strengthening the country’s position on the global stage.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, conveyed heartfelt condolences to Qatar’s ruler, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Al Thani family, and the people of Qatar.
The ministry further affirmed the nation’s solidarity with Qatar during the period of mourning and prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Father Amir.
