Governors of the North-East have asked the Federal Government to revive stalled oil exploration in Borno State. Borno Governor Babagana Zulum is asking the Federal Government to revive stalled oil exploration in Magumeri and Gubio local government areas.
The call came during the 13th meeting of the North-East Governors’ Forum, where regional leaders discussed security, infrastructure and economic integration. The governors also linked renewed activity around the Kolmani field and Lake Chad Basin to job creation and infrastructure for host communities.
While commercial production in Borno remains a future prospect, leaders argue that seismic surveys and drilling could attract investment if security improves. Environmental and community-consent questions remain, but the Forum says transparent arrangements for host communities will be key.
