The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to unite, saying the country cannot make meaningful progress while citizens remain divided along ethnic and religious lines.

Obi made the call on Sunday during the NDC Global Digital Townhall ahead of the 2027 elections, where he answered questions on governance and party preparations. He argued that the consequences of poor governance do not discriminate. “No tribe buys bread cheaper; no tribe buys fuel cheaper; no religion buys bread cheaper; no religion buys fuel cheaper,” he said.

The former Anambra governor stressed that poverty and insecurity now cut across all regions. Speaking at the virtual gathering, he noted that Nigerians face similar economic and security challenges nationwide, making unity essential. He concluded that Nigeria needs “a president who will unite us… and work tirelessly to secure the country.” The town hall comes as INEC’s timetable enters its final phase and political consultations intensify across the six zones.
