The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has issued the Federal Government a 14-day ultimatum to release and pay outstanding arrears contained in its 2026 agreement with the union.
SSANU President, Mohammed Ibrahim, who announced the ultimatum in Abuja on Monday, said implementation of the agreement had been inconsistent across universities due to funding and administrative challenges.
The union demanded full payment of outstanding financial obligations, including arrears effective from January 2026, earned allowances, promotions, pensions and other welfare benefits, warning that failure to meet its demands could trigger an indefinite strike.
SSANU said it remained committed to dialogue but urged the government to ensure that the agreement produced measurable benefits for its members.
