The Nigerian Navy and Marine Police have commenced a search for the bodies of victims and wreckage of a Nigerian Air Force aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The aircraft, carrying 25 people—20 passengers and five crew members—crashed into a swampy area near the Naval Base in Igbokoda at about 9AM on Monday.

No one is believed to have survived the crash

The State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohuagwu, who visited the scene, said Marine Police officers were working with the Navy and local residents to recover the victims and wreckage.

Residents said they were alerted by a loud crash, after which the aircraft sank into the swamp.

Access to the crash site has been restricted as search operations continue.

In the meantime, the Air Force has urged the public to avoid speculation and the circulation of unverified information as investigations continue.
