The House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has issued a seven-day final summons to officials of the six FCT Area Councils over outstanding audit queries involving about N100 billion.
The affected councils are Abaji, AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje and Kwali, whose chairmen failed to honour previous invitations to explain financial queries contained in the Auditor-General’s reports.
PAC Chairman, Bamidele Salam, said on Tuesday that the councils’ Directors of Personnel Management and Finance, as well as Heads of Audit, must appear before the committee on the 14th of October, 2026, or face sanctions.
The 2021 audit report identified about N7.65 billion in outstanding liabilities, including unremitted pension deductions, taxes and unpaid contractors’ obligations.
It also raised concerns over poor asset records and demanded explanations for N24.87 billion spent on personnel, overheads and capital projects.
Salam said the committee had uncovered further concerns in the 2022 and 2023 audit reports, including alleged revenue understatements, unauthorized disposal of assets and failure to submit audited accounts.
He stressed that officials found culpable would be held accountable in accordance with the law.
