UCH resident doctors begin three-day warning strike over blackout. The Nation reports that resident doctors at University College Hospital, Ibadan, have commenced a three-day warning strike today over a persistent blackout that has lasted nine months in parts of the hospital.
Doctors say critical wards, theatres and laboratories have been running on generators, raising costs and risking patients’ lives. The hospital management says it owes IBEDC and is negotiating alternative power through solar and gas. The doctors demand a permanent solution and hazard allowance for working in darkness.
The action follows similar protests at other teaching hospitals. The Nigerian Medical Association is seeking stronger enforcement of health facility standards and warns that nationwide health paralysis looms if power issues are not addressed. Patients have been advised to seek care at Adeoyo and other state hospitals during the strike.
