Founding member of the All Progressives Congress in Niger State, Jonathan Tsado Vatsa, has resigned from the party with effect from today, Monday 19th October 2026. Vatsa formerly of the Action Congress of Nigeria before the merger in 2014, who had also served as Special Adviser on Private Public Partnership to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago in a statement made available to journalists in Minna on Sunday said his resignation takes effect from Monday 19th October, 2026.
In a separate current development this morning, the Niger State Government has concluded arrangements to establish a task force as part of plans to tackle various vulnerabilities associated with child labour, trafficking and others. The government made this known during a dialogue on Trafficking, Abuse and Labour organised by Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour Stakeholders Engagement 3.0 in Minna.
The dialogue, held yesterday evening, brought together NAPTIP, traditional rulers and CSOs who called for stronger border checks between Niger and neighbouring states where child movement is high. The government said the task force will have members from Ministry of Women Affairs, Justice, Education and security agencies and will have powers to prosecute. For Minna residents, the initiative comes after NAPTIP handed over 21 trafficked minors to the state government in February, and after recent reports of minors involved in illegal mining at M.I. Wushishi Housing Estate. Officials say the task force will start operations this week with hotlines in Minna, Kontagora and Suleja.
