The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made major breakthroughs in a nationwide anti-narcotics sweep, intercepting illicit drug consignments concealed inside local plastic palm oil kegs and seizing massive caches of opioids. According to a statement issued by NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi on behalf of Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (retd.), operatives at airport cargo terminals intercepted a Saudi-bound travel consignment where dangerous cannabis and synthetic narcotics were ingeniously hidden inside containers of palm oil. The agency warned travelers and cargo couriers to thoroughly inspect packages given to them by third parties to avoid becoming unwitting accomplices to international drug trafficking. Simultaneously, the agency raided major distribution hubs in Lagos ports and recovered over ₦6.9 billion worth of powdered tramadol and ‘Loud’ cannabis strains. In Edo and Ondo states, coordinated raids led to the arrest of multiple suspects, including an 85-year-old grandmother, Grace Ehimeka, who was caught with 179kg of skunk.
